2025 Jubilee Year
Pilgrims of Hope
Pope Francis has proclaimed 2025 as a Jubilee Year with the theme Pilgrims of Hope. This special year is intended to inspire a greater sense of global unity, solidarity with the poor, and care for the environment.
Jubilees are sacred times of spiritual renewal, emphasizing conversion, God’s mercy, and forgiveness. They are marked by the ceremonial opening of the Holy Door at St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican. Pilgrims from around the world travel to Rome to pass through the Holy Doors of the four papal basilicas, seeking blessings, special graces, and an outpouring of God’s mercy. The most recent Ordinary Jubilee was the Great Jubilee of 2000, celebrated under Pope John Paul II.

St John the Evangelist School is a Roman Catholic primary school offering education with a special character for girls from Year 1 to 8 and boys from Year 1 to 6. We are privileged to serve the faith communities of the parishes of St John the Evangelist and St Peter Chanel, supporting the families of Ōtara and Clover Park with a Christ-centered education rooted in Catholic values.
At the core of our mission is the call to encounter Jesus Christ, grow in knowledge about Him, and live as His disciples. We seek to nurture faith, hope, love, compassion, and respect for the dignity of every person, recognizing each individual as made in the image and likeness of God. Our Catholic values inspire us to prioritize service to others, a commitment to justice and equity, care for creation, and the pursuit of excellence in all aspects of life.
Through our general programme, religious instruction, and observances, we guide our students in developing a deep, personal relationship with Christ, fostering their spiritual, emotional, social, and academic growth. This foundation empowers them to live out their faith as active disciples, positively contributing to their communities and the wider world.
Our school operates under the proprietorship of the Bishop of Auckland, Most Reverend Stephen Lowe.
At St John’s, we are deeply committed to upholding the dignity of every person, created in the image and likeness of God. Through our teaching programmes and resources, the Board of Trustees ensures that our school’s mission, vision, and charism are lived out daily, enabling every student to “live life to the fullest” and receive a quality Catholic education.
We achieve this by fostering life-long learning, which is central to the spiritual, emotional, social, and academic success of our students. A successful graduate of St John’s will leave with the skills and values to thrive and continue building on these foundations throughout their lives.
We entrust our plans to your prayers, seeking the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, St John the Evangelist, and all our school’s patron saints.
